DOG WALKS IN SPARKFORD AND THE SURROUNDING AREA
Here is a useful map to help you visit the best and most interesting walks from the caravan park, exploring the countryside around Sparkford and further afield. There is a copy of this map in our Reception and a QR code which you can scan to take this dog walk map on your travels around Sparkford and the surrounding area. Somerset is a very friendly county, and if you get lost, locals are always happy to help you find your way back!
PLEASE EXERCISE YOUR DOG OFF-SITE AND USE THE COUNCIL DOG POO BINS PROVIDED
YOUR NEAREST BIN IS DIRECTLY OPPOSITE OUR ENTRANCE, AROUND 60 METRES FROM OUR RECEPTION
PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEAD WHILST ON SITE
RED WALK (3 miles, CHALLENGING IN PLACES)
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement
Opposite our drive is a dog poo bin
Head South East (right) along Sparkford High Street
Turn left before the Petrol station and walk along Wolfester Terrace
Turn left on to the A359 for around 50 yards, then turn left in to Sparkford Hill Lane
Continue ahead, through the woods, then enter Sparkford Copse over the railway bridge, almost directly opposite and walk down to the bottom, back on to the main road
Turn right at the T junction, over the river and onward to The Old Parlour Farm Shop on your left
Turn right to walk a lap of Weston Bampfylde and Sutton Montis, ending up back at The Old Parlour
Continue straight ahead to walk back in to Sparkford Village for around 1 mile
Take a left at the T junction, back on to the A359 and walk past the cricket ground on your right
Cross the railway bridge and head back on to Sparkford High Street
ORANGE WALK (SHORT, EASY)
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement
Opposite our drive is a dog poo bin
Use the gate to the left of the bin to access the footpath, which is marked with a green and yellow arrow
Continue along the pathway to the railway tracks, cross the tracks using the styles
There are fields opposite which you can walk around and then re-trace your footsteps back to the caravan park

YELLOW WALK (1-2 MILES, GREAT VIEWS)
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement
Opposite our drive is a dog poo bin
Head South East (right) along Sparkford High Street
Turn left before the Petrol station and walk along Wolfester Terrace
Turn left on to the A359 for around 50 yards, then turn left in to Sparkford Hill Lane
Walk around Sparkford Woods turning right in to the large field opposite which is great for a run if there are no livestock around
You can walk down in to Queen Camel from here and visit the pub or Post Office, or turn to come back
GREEN WALK (1/2 MILE, CLOSED MARCH - SEPTEMBER)
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement
Opposite our drive is a dog poo bin
Head North West (left) along Sparkford High Street
Walk past the pub, round the corner and over the railway bridge
Carry on around the corner and cross over at the dog poo bin and carry on along Brains Lane
Turn left in to Sparkford cricket pitch
Return the same way back to the caravan park
BLUE WALK (1.2 MILES, NOT TOO DIFFICULT)
TREAT YOUR DOG TO A NEW 'DO! THE PAWS PARLOUR IN SPARKFORD WILL WASH AND GROOM YOUR DOG AFTER A WALK. SITUATED JUST A MILE AWAY, AND CONVENIENTLY NEXT DOOR TO THE OLD PARLOUR FARM SHOP AND CAFE, YOU CAN EVEN HAVE A CUP OF TEA AND A PIECE OF CAKE WHILST YOUR DOG IS PAMPERED!
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement

Head South East (right) along the High Street
Turn left before the Petrol station and walk along Wolfester Terrace
Turn left on to the A359 for around 50 yards, then turn left in to Sparkford Hill Lane
Continue ahead, through the woods, then enter Sparkford Copse over the railway bridge, almost directly opposite and walk down to the bottom, back on to the main road
Turn left at the T junction
Continue straight ahead to walk back in to Sparkford Village for around 1 mile
Take a left at the T junction, back on to the A359 and walk past Sparkford cricket ground on your right
Cross the railway bridge and head back on to the High Street
PINK WALK (6 MILES, TAKE YOUR WELLIES, INCREDIBLE VIEWS ACROSS SOMERSET AND GREAT FOR AN ADVENTUROUS WALKER)
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement
Opposite our drive is a dog poo bin
Head South East (right) along Sparkford High Street
Turn left before the Petrol station and walk along Wolfester Terrace
Turn left on to the A359 for around 50 yards, then turn left in to Sparkford Hill Lane
Continue ahead, through the woods, then enter Sparkford Copse over the railway bridge, almost directly opposite and walk down to the bottom, back on to the main road
Turn right at the T junction, over the river and onward to The Old Parlour Farm Shop on your left
Continue ahead, the hillfort is enormous and you can't miss it! Access the hillfort through the field ahead, walking around the field and up along the hillfort pathways
You can walk around the entire hillfort
Exit towards The Camelot Inn, directly opposite the entrance you have climbed
Public footpaths are clearly marked out across the field (although you can come back down the hillfort the same way you entered and continue around Weston Bampfylde and Sutton Montis, following the remainder of the red walk)
Return to Sparkford village, walk past the cricket ground on your right
Cross the railway bridge and head back on to Sparkford High Street

PURPLE WALK (1 MILE, EASY)
A BIT FURTHER AFIELD AND A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING
Walk to the bottom of our drive and immediately cross over the road to the pavement

Head South East (right) along Sparkford High Street Turn left before the Petrol station and walk along Wolfester Terrace
Turn left on to the A359 for around 50 yards, then cross over to the other side of the road
There is a wooded pathway in to the field and woodland which you can walk around and let your dog off the lead
Follow your footsteps to return to the caravan park
The Leland Trail (1 mile)
The famous 28 mile footpath from Penselwood to Ham Hill runs very close to us in South Somerset for a long walk!
Corton Ridge (4 miles)
A very challenging, hilly walk encompassing Cadbury Hillfort at South Cadbury, verging on the Dorset border
The Monarch's Way, Castle Cary (4 miles)
King Charles II's escape route following his Civil War defeat, spanning 615 miles across England and crossing through Somerset just four miles away in Castle Cary
The Macmillan Way, Castle Cary (4 miles)
A 290 mile trail from Lincolnshire to Dorset, crossing over with The Monarch's Way
Ham Hill Country Park, Stoke Sub Hamdon (13 miles)
A Somerset hillfort which has been occupied since prehistoric times, later becoming a quarry from Victorian times
Glastonbury Tor (15 miles)
If you've visited King Arthur's Camelot at South Cadbury, you can also visit Glastonbury Tor which is mentioned in Arthurian legend - King Arthur is said to be buried at Glastonbury Abbey and likely passed through our park in Sparkford on his final jouney.
